FAI 5 a side

Recently, the wonderful all-weather pitch at Drinagh Rangers played host to a FAI Primary Schools 5-a-Side Soccer Competition. 16 schools from across West Cork came together for what proved to be a fantastic day of football, fun and great sportsmanship.

Togher N.S. were magnificent throughout the competition and produced some excellent performances to reach the final. After progressing through the rounds, they faced The Model School, Dunmanway in what turned out to be a very exciting and closely contested final.

At the end of normal time the teams were level at 1–1 and the match went to extra time. Both sides battled bravely and gave it their all, but it was The Model School, Dunmanway who managed to score a late goal to secure the victory.

While the result was disappointing for Togher N.S., the children can be extremely proud of their fantastic performances throughout the tournament. Both teams displayed great skill and sportsmanship and represented their schools superbly.

Most importantly, the children had a wonderful day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone involved in organising the tournament.

Well done to all the schools who participated and congratulations to The Model School on their victory.

Snowmen

Our Junior Room had great fun getting creative with clay as they made their own snowmen. The children rolled, shaped, and decorated their snowmen with tiny noses, buttons, hats, and scarves — each one full of personality.

This activity helped develop fine motor skills, creativity, and lots of smiles along the way.  Well done to all our wonderful young artists.

Cycle Sense

The children have started the Cycle Sense cycling course.

This Cycle Skills and Safety Training programme combines both practical and theory-based learning, helping pupils understand what it takes to stay safe on the road.

Over the coming weeks, they’ll explore road safety, build their cycling knowledge, and develop essential practical skills. To bring their learning to life, the children will also be putting these skills into practice right here in the school yard.

We’re excited to watch their confidence and independence grow as they pedal their way through the programme.

Pancakes

Today, the whole school enjoyed a wonderful pancake treat! Everyone was served freshly made pancakes with a variety of tasty toppings to choose from, including sugar, lemon, blueberries, and strawberries.

A big thank you to Lisa from the S.C.P. for all her help in making this happen. The pancakes were absolutely delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Lifetime Lab

Children from 3rd to 6th class enjoyed a truly wonderful day at Lifetime Lab on Thursday at The Old Cork Waterworks. The Lifetime Lab is an ideal setting for primary school pupils to explore science and maths through STEM learning.
The primary science workshops are carefully designed to support the skills, concept development and content objectives of the SESE Science Curriculum. This year’s workshop focused on the theme of electricity, and the children wasted no time getting stuck in. They designed and drew their own electrical circuits, built battery-operated models and learned all about amps, conductors and resistors in a fun and practical way.
It was a day full of curiosity, creativity and learning. To find out more about Lifetime Lab, visit www.lifetimelab.ie

Dog Weaving Fun

The children in the Senior Room recently enjoyed a creative and colourful Dog Weaving Art Lesson. They learned the basics of weaving by carefully working coloured paper over and under to create textured patterns for their dog blanket designs.

This lesson was a wonderful opportunity to develop fine motor skills, concentration, and creativity, while also introducing pupils to a traditional art technique. Once the weaving was complete, it was time to create the dogs and add details such as eyes, ears, and noses, giving each dog its own unique personality.

The finished pieces look fantastic and have brightened up our art display. Well done to all the talented artists in Togher N.S.

School Attendance

Togher N.S. recently enjoyed a lovely visit from Roger and Lisa from the SCP (School Completion Programme). They joined us to celebrate good attendance and to chat with the children about why coming to school every day really matters – not just for learning, but for friendships, routine and wellbeing too.

To mark the occasion, every child received a wonderful new book from Roger and Lisa. It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit, and we are very grateful to them both for their time, kindness and continued support of our school community.
