The children in the Junior Room have been busy baking with Karen over the last few weeks. Cooking skills are a “hands on skill” and of course are important to a “Hands on – Minds on” school like Togher N.S. The children have created some wonderful and delicious baked delights – unfortunately photos of the finished product are rare – due to their rather short existence!
The children in Miss Daly’s room have been busy creating this beautiful 3D Under the Sea Collage. We have some wonderfully talented and creative children here at Togher N.S.
We would like to wish past pupils Hannah Cronin & Rachel Kingston the very best of luck as they represent Ireland in the 16th European Bowling championships in Germany 26th -29th May.
The children in First and Second class enjoyed coding with Scratch this week.
Scratch is an excellent, engaging and fun environment for learning some fairly advanced mathematical concepts and the basics of computer science too. Scratch is deceptively simple with its palette of brightly coloured blocks. The thing about Scratch programming though is that you can do amazing things when you combine the blocks in interesting ways. As children progress they are able to use Scratch in more and more advanced ways. Scratch has a low floor, but a high ceiling.
Scratch programming allows children to use computers to express their creative ideas and solve practical problems and empowers children to be digital makers not just digital users. Scratch is free to download here https://scratch.mit.edu/download
The children in sixth class have been busy building and operating their Vex IQ robots. We hope you enjoy the video we made.
The children in Second Class received their First Confession Certificates.
It looks like The Easter Bunny paid an early visit to Togher N.S. The children had great fun searching for their early Easter treats.
It was the last day of term and the sun was shining so it was down to the sports pitch for some GAA football. The children are really looking forward to the Sciath na Scol tournament which will be held after the Easter holidays.
We were delighted to welcome our past-pupil Luka, during a quick visit, on Friday. It’s always great to catch up with our past pupils. Thanks for the visit Luka.
