Halloween Art

Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain – used to celebrate the passing from summer to winter. People disguised themselves using animal skins to protect against evil spirits on the prowl and lit fires to guide the good spirits during Samhain. We love the festival of Samhain at Togher N.S. The children in the Senior Room celebrated the spooky season by creating these wonderful Halloween artworks this week.

Spooky Treats

Baking with Karen was all about Halloween this week. The children learned about baking gooey and crunchy marshmallow, rice crispy and chocolate cakes with a spooky theme. The children were fascinated by the spooky spider in the middle of the web on top of the delicious gooey marshmallow, rice crispy and chocolate bake. They were delighted to learn about the artistic techniques that can be used in baking to achieve both beautiful and tasty results.

Special Guest

We were delighted to welcome a special guest for Togher’s Got Talent. At Togher N.S. we believe that children should be encouraged to showcase their talents and Miss O’Connell was delighted to join the audience and watch this year’s performance – she also brought some treats.

Togher’s Got Talent

Togher’s Got Talent is one of the best days of the school year. The children treated us to some wonderful singing, gymnastics, drama, magic, instrument playing and even voice acting as part of Togher’s Got Talent. This annual event is a fun, engaging way for the children to show off something they are good at, practice performing, stand in front of an audience (or send a video) and receive positive feedback for their efforts. Congratulations to all the children that took part.

Doheny’s GAA

Doheny’s GAA will play Newcestown GAA in the Senior A Football Championship on the 5th of November in Pairc Uí Chaoimh Cork. Many of our pupils play with the Doheny’s GAA and Sam Maquire’s GAA. We were delighted to welcome representatives from the club with the Doheny’s flag to Togher N.S. We would like to wish the team the very best of luck in the final.

Yoga Classes

The children are delighted to to develop their movement and balance skills during Yoga classes this year. Yoga is considered to be a low-impact activity that can increase general health and stamina, promote relaxation, reducing stress and improve strength and balance to all parts of the body.
