Watch our caterpillars grow

It has been amazing to watch how quickly our caterpillars have grown over the last few weeks. We are expecting that any day now they will form a J shape hanging from the lids of the containers. This will be the start of their metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly. This J shape means that our caterpillars are about to form a chrysalis. This is both an exciting and worrying time – once the transformation begins the caterpillars must remain attached to the lid. In a busy classroom it can be easy for children to forget the importance of not disturbing the nature table during this time! Luckily the older children are seasoned butterfly enthusiasts and keep a close eye on activities near the nature table.
