Department of Education and Skills guidance and advice for schools and colleges

The Department of Education and Skills wishes to bring to the attention of schools and colleges an emerging weather event involving severe winds which may impact during a period when students and staff are travelling to school by public transport and in private cars.

Met Eireann has issued a Red level weather warning for severe and potentially damaging winds in certain areas of the country and continues to have an orange warning in place countrywide.

The Department of Education and Skills’ advice to schools is that they should consider not opening where a Status Red weather warning related to wind is forecast to coincide with the period/s during which students and staff would be expected to be travelling to and from school.
