Chestnut Tree

Today our senior class planted a horse chestnut tree under the supervision of Michael Burke from The Irish Heritage Council. Michael has loved Irish plants and the Irish landscape since he was a young boy. He encourages the same enthusiasm among the children through fun and engaging activities both in and outside the classroom. Today the children collected plant specimens which they then examined, drew and discussed in the classroom.
Michael also introduced them to the basic science behind plant growth and survival. The children also studied the plant-life present in local walls and hedgerows – enhancing the children’s appreciation of botanical heritage as well as built environment.
