Caterpillar progress

This morning when we came into school we got a very pleasant surprise!

One of our caterpillars has developed into a cocoon and many are preparing to as well!

We can’t wait to see the transformation and we will keep you updated on the progress right here on our blog.

Our Butterfly Garden

This year Ms. O Connell’s class decided to get a butterfly garden school kit which includes:

A reusable butterfly pavilion hatching habitat with super clear mesh for easy viewing and dual zippered entry for access. We also received caterpillars and their food.

Vermicomposting

Many thanks to Sarah, Mum to Tallulah, Oliyen and Micah for donating a wormery to the school.   Wormeries (or vermicomposting) is a great way of diverting a huge amount of waste away from landfill, as well as gaining high quality compost!   We commenced our latest project on the 25th of April.

Feeding the Birds

We have three new window bird feeders outside all classrooms.

We see lots of different types of birds. We have seen Wagtails, Bullfinches , Robins, Longtailed tits, Blue tits, coal tits and a Chaffinch.

We are delighted to feed them these cold mornings.

We are learning the names of the birds by using our bird chart “Garden Birds”

Gardening

We have decided to do a bit of work on the garden. Our first job was to spread some bark mulch and pick the weeds from the planters. The children worked hard to get the bark mulch from the yard to the garden beds and pick out the pesky weeds. The children from the junior room even came out to supervise the operation.DSCN7207
