Look at what we found!

While we were away over the summer Mother Nature has been very busy – helped by Cassie (Kimi and Levi’s Mum) and her watering can. We were delighted to find our pumpkin seeds had produced these beautiful pumpkins. Our efforts to grow pumpkins last year were unsuccessful – the slugs won! so we are really looking forward to harvesting these pumpkins at Hallowe’en.

Hyacinths

Each classroom observed hyacinths growing since last October. The glass vase allowed us to view the roots growing.
We were delighted to see some bulbs beginning to bloom today.
We look forward to our outdoor bulbs (daffodils and tulips) blooming in the near future.

Battery Recycling

The children have been busy collecting batteries for the schools battery recycling programme. We have taken the WEEE Pledge to recycle batteries and by doing so help to raise much needed funds for Laura Lynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice. Now that the Chrismas holidays are over we would like to remind parents that used batteries can be sent into the school for recycling.

Green Day in TOGHER NS

Today was “Green Day” in the school. We have been thinking green for quite a while now and have been doing our very best to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The children watched some short videos on the damage that plastic pollution is doing world wide and how important it is to reduce the amount of plastic we use and to recycle any plastic that we do use. Our bin monitors reported that all classes have become very good at using the recycling bins and that the correct waste is going into the correct bins. We discussed simple things that eveyone can do to reduce the waste that is created.

Fruit, Nuts and Seeds

Michael Burke from the Heritage Council came to the school to discuss fruit, nuts and seeds with the children. Following a mini nature walk the children were fascinated by the many different varieties of fruit, nuts and seeds that nature produces.

WEEE Pledge

Well done to all the children who have collected batteries for the schools battery recycling programme. WEEE Pledge hopes to broaden student’s recycling activity and inspire the next generations to be “guardians of our planet”.
