Ray Houghton and Ronnie Whelan visit Togher N.S.

The children at Togher N.S. were delighted to welcome two Irish football legends – Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton to the school. The children sang and recited poetry for the two sports-stars after which Ronnie and Ray fascinated the children with their accounts of playing for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 88, Italia 90 and USA 94 and their wonderful careers with Liverpool F.C.
The children had many questions for the two men and were thrilled to hear about their early careers, the famous goals that they scored, the many great players that they played with and against and their current careers in the media.
A long line was formed and Ronnie and Ray signed autographs for all the children. It was now time for a quick game and the children were soon showing off their skills for the two sporting heroes.
We would like to thank David Hall – Luke and Harry’s Dad for bringing these two great football ambassadors to our school.
