We were delighted to welcome Marie Brett from the Irish Heritage Council who, recently visited our school. Marie introduced the metalwork of the Bronze Age to the children through interactive presentations and the presentation of Bronze Age replica artefacts – including gold jewellery and bronze shields. The children handled and examined these objects while, Marie engaged them in a discussion about the archaeology, history and customs associated with the objects. Marie then demonstrated different metalwork techniques and the group discussed the history of the tools and materials used. The children were given the opportunity to make their own artworks – based on a Bronze age artefact of their choice using copper or brass.
