Science in The Junior Room

In Science this month we explored the effects of heating and cooling on a range of liquids and solids.  We assembled a collection of things that can change – cress seeds sprouting, nails rusting, milk souring, bread growing mould, etc.   We discussed the changes, can the changes be stopped or reversed?  We also investigated dried foods.  We covered some peas with water and observed the changes in size, colour, smell and texture.  We were delighted to notice that some peas even sprouted.  We were really interested in how some items tasted after being heated or cooled.  As part of our experiments we ate jelly, rice-krispie buns and popped corn kernels.
